PASSING SCREENING TEST:
Screening test comprises of OIR and PPDT (Picture Perception and Discussion Test). In the PPDT, the most important part is the group discussion to formulate a common story. There may be as many as 20 candidates in this Group discussion. A lot of candidates get cowed down just because of the number of competitors as he/she has never experienced a formal GD in such large group. Approx. 70% candidates are screened out. Being sent home on the first day, without even experiencing the full SSB interview can be HEART BREAKING for everyone. At the coaching institute the candidate gets full exposure to the environment of PPDT Group Discussion. The candidate gains huge confidence and immensely improves his chances of being screened in.
During the SSB interview the candidate spends 2 days doing Group Tasks and is assessed by the GTO in real time environment along with a group. Group Dynamics, therefore, becomes most important part of the SSB interview. During the coaching, the candidate has the first hand experience of performing in a group.
A person feels very comfortable in known environment and with known people. The moment he/she is put in alien environment and unknown group his/her behavior changes drastically. At the coaching centers the candidate gets a chance to experience such alien environment and understand their behavior to improve themselves where necessary. This helps him/her avoid jitters of alien environment at SSB interview centers.
During the SSB coaching the candidate makes a number of friends who help him/her overcome a lot of fears about his/her personality traits. Their friendly and open criticisms are more easily accepted by the candidates. The friends also tend to share a lot of knowledge and improve their general awareness collectively and inadvertently. At home acquiring same amount of information can be immensely boring and time consuming.
Group Discussion (GD) Group Planning Exercise (GPE) and OUTDOOR TASKS (SIX) are activities which can best be learnt only when experienced with a group in a outdoor location. No amount of written/verbal instructions can substitute practical experience which can only be gained at coaching centers.
A coaching institute provides real time test practice. The psychological test are timed to create psychological stress. After doing real time practice the candidate is in a better position to handle time induced stress and then can give better responses during the SSB interview.
PERSONAL BRIEFING BY PSYCHOLOGIST:
At The Cavalier, Raja Garden, New Delhi, the psychologist personally briefs each candidate. A candidate can never get such personal guidance at home or through any written/verbal guidance.
Most candidates do not have the experience of being personally interviewed by such a senior Officer. The candidates generally get overawed by the occasion and tend to falter, thereby spoiling their interview. The dynamics of a Personal Interview can only be understood by personal experience. The candidates who undergoes one/two personal interviews at the coaching centre tends to acquire more confidence in themselves and performs much better.
